Quartz

Quartz is is a popular choice for many modern day renovations

Quartz is an engineered material. Manufacturers make quartz countertops by grinding natural quartz into dust and combining it with other natural and synthetic materials such as polymers, resins, and pigments. The resins and polymers bind the quartz together, making it hard and durable while pigments are added to give the countertop color. In some cases, recycled glass or metal flecks are added.

Pros

Color and Design

Quartz countertops have so many colors available. The design options can be anything from simple patterns, to complex imitations of granite or marble.

Low Maintenance

The non-porous surface requires no sealing or special care. Simple cleaning keeps them looking good as new.

Durable

Quartz is hard to scratch and chip.

Cons

Heat Damage

The resins and fillers that provide quartz’s durability also make them vulnerable to heat damage from things like setting a warm pan on top.

2

Price

Quartz typically has a higher price tag.
